Healing Arts Gallery Features Collage Paintings of M. Kate Heikkinen
02/18/2010

West Shore Medical Center’s Healing Arts Gallery will feature the works of accomplished fine artist M. Kate Heikkinen now through the end of April. This exhibit features a wonderful display of Kate’s unique collage paintings.

Heikkinen, originally from Ferndale, Michigan, was greatly influenced in her pursuit of a career in art by her talented parents. Essentially self-taught, she broadened her knowledge by studying with nationally recognized artists Roland Roycraft, Randall Higdon, Maggie Linn, Gary Akers, and Irving Shapiro.

The fine art collage paintings the artist is now creating are the culmination of 39 years of work in different media, including porcelain painting, oil on canvas, watercolor, and pastel. Heikkinen has studied and experimented with collage extensively since 1998.

Heikkinen’s work has been shown throughout Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana. Since 1978 she has participated in juried art fairs and has received numerous awards. She has had the opportunity to exhibit in several one-woman and group shows and has gained acceptance into regional art competitions. Her artwork resides in many private collections throughout the United States.

We hope you enjoy this exhibit!
