WSMC Healing Arts Gallery Hosts Calligraphy Exhibit
07/14/2010

West Shore Medical Center, in cooperation with the Manistee Art Institute, is pleased to host an exhibit of calligraphy in the hospital’s Healing Arts Gallery now through mid-August. The works are on loan from the Pen Dragons Calligraphy Guild of Kalamazoo, Mich.

Pen Dragons Calligraphy Guild promotes the study, appreciation, and practice of calligraphy as an art form. According to the guild, calligraphy is presently enjoying a revival as a reaction to our high-tech world and the efficiency of computer printouts. The resurgence of the lettering arts over the past decade has achieved the status of a cultural phenomenon.

The current exhibit includes a wide variety of lettering styles and media, including watercolor, rubber-stamping, and collage, and features original writings as well as quotes by well-known authors.

The public is invited to browse the exhibit during regular business hours. Feel free to stop in! The Healing Arts Gallery is located near the Café on the main floor of West Shore Medical Center at 1465 E. Parkdale Ave. in Manistee.

For more information about the Healing Arts Gallery or to inquire about purchasing artwork, contact Julie Blaney, West Shore Medical Center Communications Coordinator, at (231) 398-1189.
