Laboratory & Pathology

West Shore Medical Center provides laboratory and pathology services that are virtually unmatched by any other northern Michigan facility of its size.

The lab is staffed by a highly qualified team of medical laboratory technicians and laboratory aides. These individuals are skilled in such disciplines as bacteriology, mycology, parasitology, virology, general immunology, routine chemistry, urinalysis, endocrinology, toxicology, hematology, compatibility testing, histopathology, as well as an on-site cytology technologist.

The wide range of medical testing abilities is available not only to hospital inpatients and outpatients, but also to local nursing homes, adult care facilities, and area employers. The lab provides testing services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. An extensive range of tests are performed on site, providing a turn around time of 24 hours or less.

The lab has been computerized so that area physicians can get results in their offices quickly. In a partnership with Munson Healthcare, we also have an interfaced lab system, which provides a quick and convenient transfer of results to the physicians at other locations. The computerized lab technology has made it possible for over 2,500 physicians to be connected via network computers or through fax.

Laboratory Outpatient Hours:

Monday through Friday: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Saturday: 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Outreach Laboratory Services

In addition to the laboratory testing and pathology services offered at West Shore Medical Center, there are three outreach laboratories. These locations provide walk-in convenience at sites throughout the county.
