RadiologyRadiology Services
West Shore is committed to providing women's health services in a confidential, comfortable setting. Our recently renovated Radiology Department includes a women's services suite. This area houses procedures primarily used by women, such as digital mammography, bone densitometry, and ultrasound. These rooms are grouped in one area with a separate waiting room and changing facility for women. In addition, West Shore has several technologists certified in mammography to make your experience as comfortable as possible.

Digital Mammography
Mammography is the best method for detecting abnormalities of the breast. West Shore now offers women the latest technology for mammograms with its digital mammography system. Digital mammograms are more accurate since the images appear on a computer screen rather than film. The contrast and zoom can be adjusted to see areas that may be suspicious. For the patient’s comfort, the digital process eliminates waiting for film to be checked, and the plate that compresses the breast is more flexible than with previous equipment. The images are stored on a computer and can be transmitted electronically, speeding up consultation with the patient’s physician or a breast specialist. West Shore’s digital mammography also includes the mammotome biopsy device, an advanced biopsy procedure used in conjunction with digital mammography.

Bone Densitometry
Osteoporosis is a disease that can occur with almost no warning signs, so early detection is necessary for successful treatment. Bone densitometry, which is also called bone density testing, is used to determine a patient's bone mineral density. This is useful in the diagnosis of not only osteoporosis but assessing the risk of fractures and monitoring a patient's response to osteoporosis therapy.
