Volunteer Opportunities – West Shore Medical Center Auxiliary

Volunteer OpportunitiesVolunteers are always welcome at West Shore Medical Center!

Volunteers add a special touch to the quality of care we provide. A comforting smile or soothing voice are little things that can ease a patient through injury, illness, and recovery. As a volunteer with the West Shore Medical Center Auxiliary, you not only make a difference in someone else's life but in your own life as well.

With a team of over 100 members, the West Shore Medical Center Auxiliary has been serving the hospital for over 50 years, allowing staff more time to concentrate on what is direct patient care.

Auxiliary members have opportunities to help in a number of areas, including:
  • Greeting and Wayfinding. Welcoming patients to West Shore Medical Center and offering assistance with way-finding. Many shifts available.
  • Patient Transport/Surgical Waiting Room Attendant. Providing patient transportation and other assistance to the nursing team. Flexible weekday shifts.
  • Bits of Cheer Gift Shop. Retail responsibilities. Flexible weekday, evening, and weekend shifts.
  • Office Support. Opportunities to work from home or in an office. Flexible weekday shifts.

The Auxiliary is also active in fundraising efforts, operating the Bits of Cheer Gift Shop in the hospital lobby and holding events throughout the year to benefit the hospital. Their largest fundraiser is the Sleighbell Arts and Crafts Show held every December.

Auxiliary meetings are held monthly and attendance is requested but not mandatory. Lunch is provided in the cafeteria on meeting days. Annual dues are $7. A monthly newsletter provides information on current needs, events, and the status of West Shore Medical Center and the Auxiliary.

Auxiliary members working at West Shore Medical Center are required to have annual flu shots and TB tests, which are provided free of charge by the hospital. Auxiliary members are also eligible for a discounted membership at West Shore Health Connection and a complimentary meal during volunteer shifts on campus.

For more information about becoming an Auxiliary member, please call (231) 398-1187 or email us.
